Must do's in Johannesburg
Montecasino & the Cradle of Mankind: in for fun entertainment in a faux Tuscan style environment? Head for Montecasino, “Gauteng’s Premier Entertainment Destination”. Here you will find cinemas, a casino and the largest theatre in Africa, called the Teatro, which has hosted a number of world-class musicals. The Sterkfontein Caves in the Cradle of Mankind area, one hour north of Johannesburg, are home to the oldest human remains ever found, the bones of Mrs Ples and Littlefoot.
Nelson Mandela National Museum: dedicated to the life of the famous statesman who serves as an example for the whole world.
Kruger Park: dream of seeing The Big Five alive and kicking? South Africa’s world famous national park, Kruger, lies in the north-eastern part of the country and includes miles of pristine natural habitat.
Soweto: the most renowned township near Johannesburg. Tip: take a bike ride through the city accompanied by a guide and go home with a different perception of a township.

How to explore Johannesburg?
Listen to the advice of the locals, restrict walking ...and take a taxi. Do not just halt one in the street, but order a cab through the reception of your hotel or at the restaurant.Renting a car can be very useful in Johannesburg. Many sights in Gauteng and Mpumalanga are far apart and a rental car is the fastest and easiest solution.
Johannesburg Travel information
Travel documents: travelling on a Belgian passport (children and babies included) must be in possession of an international e-passport (electronic) containing min. 2 blank pages and valid for 30 days after your departure from South Africa.
From 01 October 2014 onwards, all persons entering South Africa, with children (-18 years) will need to carry an unabridged birth certificate for each child. A certified copy is also accepted. Additionally, single parents travelling with children will need to carry a certified statement from the other parent authorising this trip. The new regulations are also applicable for transit passengers.
For Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Botswana and Namibia, your passport must be valid 6 months after return. A visa is required for entry to Zimbabwe (€30 - 14/08/2014 - subject to change) and Swaziland (free for Belgian passport holders).

Climate: the moderate savannah climate keeps temperatures pleasant in Johannesburg. In summer (December - February) average temperatures rarely surpass 30 °C; during winter (June - August) daytime temperatures often reach 15°C or more. Nights on the contrary can be extremely cool.
