Bangkok: Good to know

Must do's in Bangkok

Royal Palace: a must for first-timers in Bangkok. Do not miss the Wat Phra Kaeo or the temple of the Emerald Buddha.

Massages: nothing better than an authentic Thai massage. In Bangkok you can find a massage parlour on every corner. The prices are similar everywhere and though negotiating is common in Bangkok, arguing about the price of your massage is simply not done. They are already cheap, cheap, cheap.

Floating market:  one hour’s drive from Bangkok. Local merchants gather by boat to sell their fresh produce: vegetables, fruits, flowers…. Souvenirs and clothing, as well as delicious home-cooked meals can also be found here. A unique though touristic experience!

Shopping: Shopping: Bangkok has a number of breath-taking shopping malls: Siam Paragon, Central World, Zen ...which sell the genuine brands (no fake here) Terminal 21 is a concept shopping mall. Each floor is inspired by cities like Paris and New York.

Bangkok: Insider tips

Fond of seafood? Try T&K seafood restaurant in Chinatown; a firm favourite amongst the locals especially if they have a celebration on. The seafood is grilled on the barbeque. Delightful!

Want to visit Bangkok in a more unusual way? Cycle through Chinatown. You crisscross the town through back alleys and unfamiliar hotspots. Absolutely relaxing and unique.

How to explore Bangkok?

The fastest and cheapest way to move about in Bangkok is by BTS sky train. Most train stations are located in Central and Eastern Bangkok.

Take a metered taxi for longer distances and outside peak hours. Ask the driver to put the meter on as you board.

The cutest way to explore Bangkok and its attractions is by tuk-tuk (motorized tricycle). Mind you, preferably for short distances as long rides mostly turn out extremely expensive. Negotiate before you board.

Want to explore the rest of Thailand? Rent a car or book one of the selfdrives listed in our brochures and on our web.
