Must do's in Athens

Acropolis: dominates Athens skyline and is by far the most visited and famous attraction. The Parthenon temple, dedicated to the goddess Athena, is world renowned. 

The new Acropolis Museum: the artefacts of the Acropolis have found a fitting backdrop in their newly allocated well-arranged and recently built complex. With an total surface area of 25,000 square meters and over 4,000 objects displayed over an exhibition area of 8,000 m², your time here will be spend in a rich and rewarding way. 

Pláka:  lose yourself in the mists of time during your citytrip to Athens as you stroll through the narrow alleys of the oldest district of the city. Go treasure-hunting for souvenirs and take lots of pictures, but leave only your footsteps... and the fingerprints on your glass while you raise a toast to the wonders of your citytrip in one of the many cosy pubs. In nearby Monastiraki, there is a giant flea market on Sundays.

Athens: Insider tips

The port of Piraeus is the largest in Greece.  A mere 6 km out of the city centre of Athens you will discover the best fish restaurants in town It is also the perfect spot to watch the impressive cruise ships anchor or leave while you sip on a glass of wine overlooking the port. 

Feel like escaping the city bustle? Head for Anafiotika with its white tainted houses and picturesque alleys. Sip traditional ouzo and enjoy the true Greek, relaxed pace of life. 

Piu Verde is where you will find the epicureans. A mere stone’s throw away from the buzzing city centre of Athens, this café-restaurant is a heaven of peace. Tucked away in the lush gardens of the neighbourhood of Papagou, encircling a pool with water feature... culinary delights do not get more natural. 


How to explore Athens?

Public transport is elaborate and straight-forward, so why not make it easy on yourself and hop on a bus, tram or metro.

A taxi ride in Athens is fairly affordable, especially for short trips. For longer journeys it is important to agree on a daily rate before you board the taxi. 

If you plan to explore the outskirts of the Greek capital, Athens, during your citytrip it may be worthwhile to consider renting a car.
