Stockholm: Good to know
Must do's in Stockholm
Gamla Stan: the old centre and heart of Stockholm will undoubtedly charm you with its medieval streets, picturesque squares, cafes, antique shops and street musicians.
Hagapark: this beautiful park is reminiscent of an English landscaped garden. Its many lakes and lawns are ideal spot for a picnic and invite you to swim or simply let off steam in-between the city's many hotspots.
Södermalm: the place-to-be for hipsters. Here you can find vintage clothes shopping, sip a cocktail in a retro bar, marvel at a photo exhibition or just go on a quiet stroll.
Stockholm with the kids? Take a ride on chilling roller coasters and have great fun at floating mills in amusement park Gröna Lund. Or visit the Children Junibacken largely dedicated to the Swedish writer Astrid Lindgren.
Stockholm: Insider tips
Did you know that Stockholm is in fact an archipelago of 30,000 islands? Some are large inhabited islands famed for swinging summer parties; others are little more than rocky outposts or grassy knolls visited by the odd seal or kayaker. Island-hopping is the thing to do here during your (extended) citytrip.
SoFo (South of Folkungagåtan) is the equivalent of New York’s SoHo (South of Houston). This fashionable district is known for its cute coffee bars, charming second-hand shops and exclusive vintage shops. Pop in at Grandpa's, a charming old-ish boutique with cosy interior where you can shop for vintage and fashion clothing. Tip: the shop is open every Thursday until 9pm. A DJ and bubbles set the scene and the desired atmosphere.
Need to work on your tan? On Nåttarö Island you will find the most beautiful sandy beach of Stockholm, Stora Sand. During the summer months you can rent bikes and boats here too.
