Must do's in Venice

Gondela ride no citytrip to Venice can be complete without a gondola ride along the beautiful palazzos. Romantic souls often seal their love with a kiss under the famous Bridge of Sighs.

Rialto market: One of the best known and most attractive fish markets of Italy. Besides fish you can also buy fruits, vegetables and spices here; all super fresh and seasonal. Tip: head to the market before dawn and watch the fishermen as they unload their catch of the day onto the quay. A true spectacle!

Palazzo Ducale: the Doge's Palace is one of the top attractions of Venice. And rightfully so. What a treasure!  Inside awe-inspiring paintings, ceilings, sculptures and works of art fight for your attention as they adorn the interior. You walk through the earlier meeting rooms, court, prison cells and gaze at the armouries of the Doges. From a gondola on the water the palace still looks even more fairy-tale like.

Gelato's: Venice is inextricably linked with delicious ice cream parlours. You will find one on every street corner, so you really have no excuse for not enjoying a refreshing gelato during this citytrip to Venice.

Venice: Insider tips

A miniature Venice with far less tourists? That’s Chioggia, a picturesque island one hour sailing from Venice. No gondola’s here, just fishing vessels. Authentic and true-to-life!

Want to get away from madding crowds? Take a stroll through the popular neighbourhood of Castello. Here you will find cheerful alleyways, lively squares and cosy pubs. And may be the best of all: not a tourist in sight!

Enjoy an apertivo in style in bar Longhi at the Gritti Palace luxury hotel near Canal Grande. Its terrace offers stunning views of the lagoon. Drinks are pricey; the setting priceless.

How to explore Venice?

The centre of Venice is car free. Perfect for a leisurely visit of the sights and sounds of Venice on foot.
