Johannesburg is a rainbow city, a city of contrasts. The South African metropolis has often been nicknamed the City of Gold, both for its world-known abundance of the precious mineral as for the golden reflection of the warm and orange sunsets unto the windows of the towering buildings of its city centre. Johannesburg is not the capital of South Africa, but is, together with Cape Town, one of the two most well-known tourist destinations of this stunning country. If you plan on booking a hotel in Johannesburg, the Sandton area is a good choice. Want to escape from the hustle and bustle? Go on safari to the world famous Kruger National Park and sneak up (by jeep) to a lion, giraffe or elephant.  Johannesburg is the ideal destination for those who like to combine culture and nature.

Excursions give extra zest to your stay and often leave beautiful traces. Footprints, tire tracks ... and waves of exuberance. A trip to Johannesburg without a visit to the world famous township Soweto is a shame. The St Lucia Estuary and the Hluhluwe National Park are extremely fascinating too.
Please remember: all proposed excursions easily fit in with your Connections self-drive or your custom-made trip. Book beforehand and enjoy peace of mind and budget. You're on!

Experience a fantastic time during your trip and add spice with our must-do excursions. Visit Soweto by bike or go by 4x4 in search of the Big Five in Kruger National Park or Hluhluwe and Umfolozi. On Robben Island you can visit the cell of former President Mandela and the daredevils can go cage diving and share the water with the Great Whites. Head this advice: it is not worth the risk and miss out. Plan and book your excursions ahead and make sure you are on.
