Reykjavik is definitely the coolest eco-destination of the moment. The capital of Iceland is a quirky and original getaway destination a mere 3 hours flight from Brussels. The townspeople are fashionable and at the same time fond of tradition and very hospitable. In summer daylight stretches nearly around the clock and you can enjoy mild weather. During winter conviviality rules and you may be lucky enough to spot the magical Northern Lights. In short, the ideal citytrip year-round.
Day 1 - Brussels - Reykjavik
Today you fly non-stop from Brussels to Reykjavik on Icelandair. At your arrival a shuttle bus to your hotel awaits.
Discover the centre of Reykjavik at your own pace and initiative. In the peculiar Hallgrimskirkja a lift will wizz you up to the next level for just a few crown. The cityviews are definately worth it, believe you me. (on Saturdays & Sundays)The Kolaportid Market is the-place-to-be for an original souvenir or typically Icelandic snack. Those who want to know more about Iceland's historical background, cultural scene or natural setting the many excellent museums come highly recommended. And why not go for a leisurely stroll through the quaint alleys of the city or sit on a terrace and people-watch in front of a cool coffee shop or bar ... What a treasure!
Day 2 - Reykjavik (B)
Time to explore Iceland stunning nature scapes. Ready for a guided tour of the highlights of the Southwest? Your visit starts at the Almannagja gap in the Thingvellir National Park, which is right on a continental divide. Here you can literally walk between two continents. Then the volcanic Geysir area is on your programme. Hey word "geyser" originates indeed from the geothermal source and translates from Icelandic as 'spray' or 'bubbling'. This is the perfect spot for loads of magnificent pictures. Gullfoss waterfall, a powerful, impressive, wide waterfall rounds off your day programme.
Day 3 - Reykjavik (B)
After a hearty breakfast, you can go for a walk through the city. You can nose about in the shops, taste some local delicacies and chat with the locals over a beer or soft drink - or if you are a true hot spring buff why not visit the Blue Lagoon?. At 5.30 pm your next visit is planned: a plunge in the thermal bath and swimming pool near the village of Flúðir in the south of Iceland. Here, in the secret lagoon - or Gamla Laugin as the locals call it - you discover the authentic experience of the Icelandic hot springs. Clean changing rooms and a small snack bar are at your disposal, but do not stuff your stomach as a delicious light buffet with Icelandic dishes awaits you in the Grund restaurant. Back in Reykjavik, you go hunting for the fascinating aurora borealis. Your guide is familiar with the places where you can best see this incredible show of natural light.

Iceland's country name gives the impression temperatures circle around zero or feel ice-cold year-round. Obviously this is not a reality. Considering its nearby arctic location temperatures are actually quite temperate. Part of the answer why is the fact Iceland benefits from the warm sea current which is a result of the nearby Atlantic Gulf Stream. This relatively warm seawater shields Iceland especially during the winter season from extreme coldness. Though winters are undeniably on the cool side ; summer temperatures can be very comfortable. The water does not only fall under the shape of rain either. Due to the island's predominant volcanic activity geysers spray up their boiling waters. A phenomenon that contributes to the natural beauty of the island.
