Costa Rica is an incredible country. You set out to explore volcanos and tropical, foggy forests with an extensive range of fauna and flora and you combine this all with a beach stay at wonderful Caribbean coastline.
Day 1 - San José
Arrival at San José airport and transfer to the hotel. Briefing, practical information and map. Overnight stay in San José.
Day 2 & 3 - San José > La Fortuna
You pick up your rental car at the hotel around 9 am. Route to La Fortuna, the region of the Arenal volcano (approx. 3 hours). A visit to the hot springs or the Arenal Volcano National Park come highly recommended. In addition to the impressive Arenal volcano, you can also discover a wide variety of orchids, bromeliads and ferns in the park. Other possible options in the region: boat excursion to the Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge, the Arenal Volcano, the Arenal Rainforest Reserve, the Sky Tram, the Arenal hanging bridges, the Ecocentro Danaus… 2 nights stay in Arenal.
Days 4 & 5 - Arenal > Monteverde (100 km)
On day 4 you transfer to Monteverde, a transfer which hold numerous fabulous views of the Nicoya pensinsula and its islands. You could visit the Monteverde Cloud Forest where no les sthan 6 ecosystems converge, beit that the forest is especially known for it tropical mist.
On day 5 you enjoy a day at leisure. The most stressing today is to pick what you will want to do amongst a myriad of optional activities. Visit the Santa Elena reserve of the town of Monteverde, tackle the Sky Walk & Sky Trek, zipline you way across the forest or take a ride on horseback...
Day 6 & 7 - Monteverde > Dominical
Day 8 - Dominical > Cerro de la Muerte > Savegre
Day 9 & 10 - Savegre >Turrialba
Turrialba is located 65km from San José and is part of the eastern foothills of the Cordillera Central. The Lankester Botanical Gardens, the Orosi valley and the Irazu Volcano National Park merit your time and attention. How about a visit to the Turrialba volcano or one of the numerous coffee, macademia nut and sugar cane plantations in this area? Do you prefer something sportier? Done. The Pacuare river is ideal for rafting and the Reventazon valley is perfect for mountain bike tours or bird watching.
Days 11 > 13 - Turrialba > Cahuita, Puerto Viejo
On your programme: the Caribbean coast region. The predominant Afro-Caribbean atmosphere here affects noticeably culture and gastronomy and creates a relaxed lifestyle. It's a totally different feel from the rest of the country. You will spend 3 nihght here which means that you have two full days to explore the Cahuita National Park, its wildlife and coral formations, the Reserve of Gandoca Manzanillo as well as the Indian Reserves of Punta Uva, Talamanka and Kokoldi. The beaches of Puerto Viejo are always free of charge, its waves are awesome and its people amazing as if they float in tropical bliss.
Day 14 - Cahuita, Puerto Viejo – San José (210km)
Return to San José (+/-5 h) for your last night stop during this roundtrip.

Costa Rican cuisine is a blend of Native American, Spanish, African and many other cuisine origins. Dishes such as the very traditional tamale and many others made of corn are the most representative of its indigenous inhabitants, and similar to other neighboring Meso-American countries. Spaniards brought many new ingredients to the country from other lands, especially spices and domestic animals. And later in the 19th century, the African flavor lent its presence with influence from other Caribbean mixed flavors. This is how Costa Rican cuisine today is very varied, with every new ethnic group who had recently become part of the country's population influencing the country's cuisine.
