El Salvador may well hit the top of your bucketlist very soon. Get ready to enjoy this awe-inspiring country!

Day 1 > 3 - San Salvador

Welcome to San Salvador! A meet & assist plus transfer to your first hotel where you will reside for the next 3 nights awaits. Tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, you have plenty of time to explore this captivating capital. Plaza Civica and Plaza Libertad, the old Plaza Major, amid the historical center of San Salvador for instance, or the botanical garden, one of the many museums, churches and cathedrals of the City. And why not lift the veil of the mysterious past in one of the archaeological sites or the El Boqueron crater in the El Boqueron National Park?

Day 4 & 5 - San Salvador > Arcatao

In your rental car with driver / tour escort you start your exploration of this country with a drive towards the border of Honduras. Mountain passes, valleys and charming small villages glide by one your journey?  About halfway, in Suchitoto, lunch awaits.  Via the Cerron Grande dam you reach the city of Arcatao. Tomorrow you can spend a day at leisure to explore the ins and outs of this appealing little rural village surrounded by nature. Put on your walking shoes, go horseback riding or listen to the rich stories about guerrilla fighters.

Day 6 - Arcatao > Cerro de Pital

Today you drive further north along the border with Honduras to the Miramundo mountains at an altitude of 2400m. You reside in the middle of nature away from all the hustle and bustle of cities and villages and enjoy first-hand the mysterious splendour of the cloud forest, a tropical jungle that bathes in fog. Biodiversity is the asset here as the cloud forest is home to an abundance of rare plants and bird species, such as the colourful Quetzal.

Day 7 & 8 - Cerro de Pital > Juayau

Departure for a trip along the highest point of El Salvador, the famous El Pital, and further south to Juayua. The most scenic way to reach this place is via the 'Rutas de Flores' or flower route, often described as the most beautiful of all routes in El Salvador. You drive past colonial and cosy villages with colourful streets, typical churches and languid squares while you are pampered by the scents and colours of over 200 flower species and plants and the insects that love their nectar. Fortunately, you stay here for the next 2 nights so that you can continue your excavation of the region tomorrow. Why not go on a coffee tour, zipline or go see the colourful mural in nearby Ataco?

Day 11 - Juayua > Atami

Via the Cerro Verde and along the mountain ranges of San Julian and El Balsamo you reach the coast of the Pacific Ocean and the village of Atami, your home during the last 3 nights of this itinerary. In this little piece of paradise on earth you enjoy the sea breeze in your hair and the feeling of your feet trotting the black, volcanic beach sand or softly kicking the salty waters of the natural tidal pools. Delightful far niente in a stunning, perfect to recharge the batteries with solar energy before your return to Belgium.

Day 12 - Atami > San Salvador

End of your tour.  If you have the time why not extend with a round trip, beach extension or nature exploration in a neighbouring country such as Panama, Colombia, Mexico, Costa Rica, Cuba or even the USA. We warmly welcome you to share your pictures, tips and adventure stories on our facebook page, instagram, on our picwall and in flying colours on thetravellinggeneration.be. Check it out!

Along the coast they often fluctuate between 25 °C to 30 °C. In the interior it is usually about 5 degrees cooler and the higher you go into the mountains the lower the temperature, as can be expected. The highest peak, the Cerro El Pital, can be covered in snow during the winter months!
