Village Windigo is located in the Hautes Laurentides at the foot of what translates as Devil's Mountain. You reside at the heart of nature on the banks of the Baskatong reservoir. And of course there is plenty of opportunity to try out the winter activities that are so typical of this stunningly beautiful northern region. Snowmobiling, dog sledding, snowshoeing ... And that's not all. You will also discover the two most famous cities of this province, Quebec City and Montreal. An intense stay that seamlessly combines nature and city scenes.

Day 1 - Montreal

Arrival and welcome by your guide at the airport of Montreal and transfer to your hotel. Check in and the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 2 - Montreal > Ferme Neuve (+/- 275 km * B - L- D)

Today you discover one of the most special cosmopolitan cities in Canada, Montreal, in the company of your guide. This city is the pinnacle and cradle of the two peoples that once founded Canada. Seize your day at the rhythm of the wintry street or cosy underground level of this multi-faceted city. In the afternoon your transfer to Village Windigo awaits.

Day 3 - Ferme Neuve ( B - L- D)

Your winter stay starts with a guided half day snowmobile ride.

 After a number of essential, basic guidelines you explore the snowy paths of the region. Your guide sets the pace and before you know it you will feel at home on the scooter and enjoy the wonderful driving and gliding sensations. This is fun! You lunch at a snowmobilers' relay. Return to Village Windigo at the end of the day.  Dinner and bonfire where you roast your own marshmallows.

Day 4 - Ferme Neuve ( B - L- D)

This morning you go for a walk on snowshoes in search of chaga, mushrooms with medicinal properties. In the afternoon you try an authentic and typical winter custom that originates from the Indians: ice fishing. As soon as the ice on the lakes and rivers is thick enough, it is practiced everywhere in Quebec. Rest of the day free to explore the area on snowshoes or cross-country skis.

Day 5 - Ferme Neuve ( B - L- D)

After breakfast, you meet your sled dogs who will take you on a ride. This is a magical experience where your talents as a musher will be put to the test by dogs who are full of energy and eagerly awaiting the sin of departure. One command to the lead dog later you have the forest and a world of virgin white all to yourself. Simply unforgettable. In the afternoon, your guide proposes a forest survival activity and after dinner there is the option to participate in a torch walk on snowshoes.

Day 6 - Ferme Neuve > Quebec (520km * B- L)

Today you will leave this enchanting site and exchange it for the charming city of Quebec. Along the way you stop in a cabane à sucre to enjoy a delicious meal based on maple syrup. Rest of the day free to fill in at your own pace and interests.

Day 7 - Quebec > Montréal (250km * B- L)

How about a city tour discovery of this beautiful city with European accents? Done! The parliament, the ramparts, the Château Frontenac, the plains of Abraham ... Quebec reveals a myriad of its apparent and hidden gems! Time at leisure till your transfer to Montreal.

Day 8 - Montreal (B- L)

There is time set aside for a morning souvenir treasure hunt, if you like. Too soon it's time for your transfer (included) to Montreal airport.

Travel Documents

  • All Belgian nationals travelling on a Belgian passport (children and babies included) must be in possession of an international e-passport (electronic) containing min. 2 blank pages, valid for at least 1 day after their return home. All travellers to Canada must purchase an eTA or electronic Travel Authorisation online via the official website cic.gc.ca/english/visit/index.asp prior to entering canadian territory via its airports. Price: 7 CAD or +/- 5 Euros. Your eTA is valid for 5 years and linked to your passport number. This implies that as soon as your passport expires, so does your eTA.

  • To save time at Customs and Immigration in Canada, you can downmload the CanBorder eDeclaration app before your arrival. You will then receive a QR-code that remains valid for 24 hours. Thanks to the scanning of the QR code, you do not have to re-enter your data on the screen at the Customs counters. You can download via the Apple Store app or Google Play app.

  • Please note: A credit card is required upon check-in at the hotels and also when renting a car. All cross-border travellers with the USA must on top be in possession of an international passport and an ESTA. The digital passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the set date of your return flight. The electronic travel authorization must be purchased online by means of a personal credit card via the official link https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/ (14 USD on 20JAN2015). Your ESTA is valid for max. 2 years. Should your international passport expire within that period, so does your ESTA as it is linked to your passport number. We strongly recommend you to print out the Esta- or Eta permit and to have it on you while you travel to avoid problems.

  • Travellers with a non-Belgian nationality and / or travellers travelling on a foreign passport are invited to spontaneously report this matter to the Connections travel consultant and shall contact their respective embassy (s) or Consulate (ate) to obtain the latest updates concerning all current travel requirements and documents.

Daylight saving time 2017: In Canada the clock is set forward in the night of Sunday 12 MAR 2017 at 2am.  In Belgium, the clock is set forward on Sunday 26 MAR 2017 at 02am. This entails that between 12 and 26 March, the time difference is one hour less than indicated above.

Winter time 2017: Belgium turns the clock back one hour on Sunday 29 OCT 2017 at 02am.  Canada turns back the arms of the clock on the night of Saturday, 5 nov at 2am. That entails that during the latter week the time difference is one hour less than indicated above.

A personal credit card is required upon check-in at the hotels and also when renting a car. Credit cards are very convenient and widely accepted and ATMs are readily available.

Climate

The climate is comparable to ours. In spring, days are nice and nights are fresh.

In summer temperatures can reach peaks, especially in the East. In the West, there is more chance of precipitation and it is cooler than in the East.

On the coast and around the lakes it is usually a lot cooler.
