FAQ
The sooner, the better! Early booking not only gives you access to attractive discounts but also ensures a wider selection of vehicles. For summer vacations, it’s best to book as early as the previous fall to secure your ideal campervan. Don’t forget to reserve your campsite in time as well—especially if you plan to visit national parks during peak season. Many campgrounds require reservations up to six months in advance.
After a transatlantic flight, you must stay at least one night in a hotel before picking up your campervan. This is a strict requirement, and no exceptions are made. Your vehicle will be ready for pickup the following afternoon, meaning you won’t have much time for a long drive on your first day. The check-in process takes some time, and most travelers also stop at a supermarket for supplies before hitting the road. We recommend planning a short drive of no more than one to two hours on your first day, allowing you to arrive at your campsite relaxed and unhurried. On your final day, you’ll need to return the campervan in the morning, so you should plan for a short drive of one to two hours before drop-off. This way, you can wrap up your journey smoothly without any stress.
For added flexibility, some rental companies offer the Early Bird Departure Special (EBDS) at an extra cost. This option allows you to pick up your campervan earlier on day one and return it later on the final day. Contact our travel specialists for more details.
Not necessarily! The price of a campervan is primarily determined by availability rather than size. The more models available, the lower the price tends to be. However, don’t wait too long to book—prices can rise as availability decreases. Keep in mind that while a larger campervan may not always cost more to rent, it does consume more fuel, increasing your overall travel costs compared to a smaller model.
Anyone with a standard B driver’s license can drive a campervan—no special permits required! And don’t worry, it’s easier than you think. Roads and parking lots in the U.S. and Canada are designed to accommodate larger vehicles, making maneuvering more manageable than in many European cities. While it may take a little getting used to, with some practice and a helpful travel companion to assist with parking, you’ll quickly gain confidence. Most campervans come with automatic transmission, making driving even smoother and more comfortable.
The base rental price includes the vehicle and the necessary insurance, but mileage is not included. You’ll need to select your mileage package when booking. Depending on your itinerary, you can opt for unlimited mileage or choose pre-paid bundles of 100 or 500 km/miles.
Helpful tip! Avoid underestimating your mileage—multiply your estimated route distance by 1.25 to allow room for spontaneous detours and scenic stops. This way, you can explore stress-free without worrying about exceeding your mileage limit!
For extra convenience, consider adding a personal kit and/or camper kit, so you don’t have to bring bedding and kitchen essentials yourself.
And for even greater peace of mind? Many rental companies offer additional insurance options that allow you to reduce or eliminate your deductible. This way, you can hit the road worry-free and fully enjoy your adventure!
The cost of an RV trip can vary greatly due to factors like seasonal demand, exchange rates, and availability. Prices are unpredictable and fluctuate weekly based on supply and demand, making it crucial to book at the right time.
For peak travel seasons like summer, it’s smart to reserve your campervan or motorhome as early as the previous fall—or even years in advance—to lock in the best price and guarantee availability. However, last-minute deals can sometimes appear if rental companies need to fill remaining vehicles, so it’s worth checking for potential promotions.
Tip: If possible, plan a round trip instead of dropping off your RV in another city. One-way rentals often come with high relocation fees, making round-trip routes the most budget-friendly choice.
