Phuket, Koh Phi Phi, Koh Yao Yai & Koh Yao Noi. The film The Man with the Golden Gun, released in 1974, made Phuket world famous in one fell swoop. Later, other blockbusters such as The Killing Fields and The Beach followed. Over the years, the hippies who had settled here in the 1960s gave way to tourists. Off the coast of Krabi lies an immense marine national park that owes its fame to the karst cliffs that rise above sea level and give it a surreal touch. From Krabi, you can take a longtailboat to one of the many islets with white sandy beaches. Krabi is also very popular with divers and rock-climbers. Just 2.5 hours from Krabi are Koh Lanta Noi and Koh Lanta Yai, a paradise for those who prefer to relax on a white sandy beach.
