Highlights of Namibia
During your round trip through Namibia, you will discover a wealth of natural highlights found nowhere else in the world. The iconic red sand dunes of Sossusvlei rise up to 300 metres above the white clay pan of Deadvlei. In the north, Etosha National Park is a wildlife paradise where you can encounter elephants, zebras and giraffes on safari, and with some luck also leopards and cheetahs. The mysterious Skeleton Coast, where the desert meets the ocean, offers a surreal landscape you will never forget. Fish River Canyon, the second-largest canyon in the world, showcases the immense power of erosion over millions of years.
Etosha National Park
Etosha National Park is without a doubt the crown jewel of safari destinations in Namibia. This vast wildlife reserve, covering more than 22,000 square kilometres, is dominated by the Etosha salt pan — a white, moon-like landscape that transforms into a shallow lagoon during the rainy season. The park is home to no fewer than 114 mammal species and 340 bird species. What makes Etosha truly unique are its waterholes, where wildlife gathers and creates exceptional game-viewing opportunities. You can spot the “Big Four” here (lions, elephants, rhinos and leopards) — only the buffalo is missing. The best time for wildlife viewing is during the dry season from May to October, when animals congregate around the waterholes.
Individual Round Trip in Namibia
An individual round trip through Namibia offers ultimate freedom to explore this fascinating country at your own pace. With a rental car, you travel along well-maintained roads through breathtaking landscapes, deciding for yourself where and when to stop. This flexibility allows you to spend more time in places that truly capture your heart, such as the majestic dunes of Sossusvlei or the wildlife-rich plains of Etosha. You stay in carefully selected accommodations, ranging from comfortable lodges to charming guesthouses, all offering an authentic Namibian experience. Pre-booked accommodations provide peace of mind while still allowing you to shape each day according to your own preferences.
Round Trips in Namibia
Namibia is one of the most accessible countries in Africa for a self-drive holiday. The infrastructure is excellent, with well-maintained roads connecting the main destinations. You can choose from various types of round trips, tailored to your wishes and budget. Travellers seeking comfort can opt for tours with overnight stays in luxurious lodges, while adventurers may prefer a 4x4 camping experience. Guided group tours led by experienced guides offer valuable insight into the local culture and nature. Most round trips start and end in Windhoek, Namibia’s welcoming capital, where you can acclimatise before heading into the vast wilderness. To truly experience the country, a minimum travel duration of two weeks is recommended.
Combination Namibia and Botswana
A combined round trip through Namibia and Botswana offers the best of both worlds: Namibia’s dramatic desert landscapes and Botswana’s water-rich wilderness areas. This combination introduces you to an extraordinary diversity of ecosystems and wildlife. After exploring Namibia’s highlights such as Etosha and Sossusvlei, you continue to the spectacular Okavango Delta in Botswana, where you take mokoro excursions (traditional canoes) through a maze of waterways inhabited by hippos and crocodiles. The contrast between Namibia’s arid deserts and Botswana’s lush water paradises makes this combination trip particularly fascinating. With a bit of luck, you can end your journey with a visit to the majestic Victoria Falls, located on the border of Zimbabwe and Zambia.
Travelling to Namibia
The best time to travel to Namibia is during the dry season from May to October, when temperatures are pleasant and wildlife gathers around water sources. From Belgium or the Netherlands, flights usually operate via Frankfurt or Amsterdam to Windhoek, with a total travel time of approximately 12 hours. To enter Namibia, your passport must be valid for at least six months after your departure date. No visa is required for tourist stays of up to 90 days. The local currency is the Namibian dollar, which is pegged to the South African rand; both currencies are widely accepted throughout the country. Namibia is relatively safe for travellers, but as always, it is important to keep valuables secure and exercise caution when driving, especially at sunset when animals are more active.
