Round Trips in the Philippines
A round trip through the Philippines guarantees an unforgettable and diverse travel experience. This island nation offers endless opportunities to design your ideal itinerary. Start your journey in vibrant Manila, where the country’s colonial past is still visible in the historic Intramuros district. From there, you can easily travel to the rice terraces in northern Luzon or take a domestic flight to the idyllic islands of the Visayas. Domestic flights are affordable and save valuable time in a country made up of thousands of islands. Experienced travellers often combine three to four islands in a two- to three-week itinerary.
Best Time to Travel to the Philippines
The best time to visit the Philippines depends on which islands you plan to explore. In general, the ideal travel period runs from November to May, when rainfall is limited and temperatures remain pleasant. From December to February, the climate is at its most comfortable, making it perfect for island hopping and beach holidays. From March to May, temperatures can rise above 30°C. The rainy season lasts from June to October, with September and October bringing the highest risk of heavy rainfall and typhoons. For divers, the months from March to June often offer the best underwater visibility, ideal for exploring colourful coral reefs around Moalboal or Coron.
El Nido and Coron
Northern Palawan is home to two of the most photogenic destinations in the Philippines: El Nido and Coron. In El Nido, dramatic limestone cliffs rise from crystal-clear turquoise waters. During island-hopping tours, you’ll discover hidden lagoons, secret beaches and vibrant underwater worlds, perfect for snorkelling and diving. Coron, reachable by ferry from El Nido, is famous for its stunning lakes, including Kayangan Lake, often described as one of the clearest lakes in Asia. Diving enthusiasts can explore fascinating Japanese shipwrecks dating back to World War II. Both destinations boast unspoilt natural beauty and are highlights of any Philippines round trip.
Cebu and Bohol
Cebu and Bohol are two gems of the Visayas archipelago and are ideal to combine during a Philippines round trip. Cebu City is often the starting point, thanks to its direct international flights and lively urban atmosphere. South of Cebu City lies the village of Moalboal, famous for the spectacular “sardine run,” where you can snorkel among millions of sardines. A short ferry ride takes you to Bohol, home to the iconic Chocolate Hills with their perfectly conical shapes.
