Hotels & Meals
In Australia you are bound to come across the popular:
Steaks: in 2015 Australia won the best steak in the world challenge, but there are many kinds of meat: beside the traditional beef, lamb and chicken you will find kangaroo, emu, crocodile and others. Cliché as it may be, no other nation does BBQ quite like Australians. The Aussies are in love with their barbie.
Burgers too are an absoulte favorite. They are often served with cheese, bacon, pineapple, beetroot, a beef tomato and lettuce.
BBQ snags: the true Aussie classic is a mild-flavoured thicker style sausage. Made with a combination of beef and pork, with subtle garlic and onion notes.
Pies: Come in all varieties. Probably amongst the most popular are beef and Coopers pale ale pie with cheesy pastry.
Sausage rolls: the perfect snack which can be served hot or cold.
Vegemite: a thick, black Australian yeasty food paste and spread made from leftover brewers' yeast extract with various vegetable and spice additives.
Lamington: a sweet sponge with a jam filling, even has a national day devoted to it. Named after its creator Lord Lamington, it’s dipped in chocolate and coated in coconut.
Anzac biscuits: a sweet biscuit, popular in Australia and New Zealand, made using rolled oats, flour, sugar, butter (or margarine), golden syrup, baking soda, boiling water, and (optionally) desiccated coconut. Its been associated with Anzac day which commemorates the landing of Australian troops in Gallipolli (Italy) during WWI on April 25th 1915.

Time zones
Australia has 3 main time zones :
GMT +8:00: Western Australia (Perth)
GMT +9:30: Australian Central (Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales except Broken Hill, Tasmania, Victoria & Northern territory all year long)
GMT +10:00: Eastern Australian Time zone (Summer New South Wales, South Australia & Queensland all year long)
Not all states and territories in Australia use Daylight Saving Time (DST). The states that use DST are the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania, and Victoria. Western Australia, Queensland, Northern Territory, and Eucla don't use DST.
Payments methods
The simplest and most reliable way to obtain cash in Australia is to use an ATM. ATMs are numerous in both city and country areas. Credit cards are a widely accepted means of payment even in the most remote areas.
Climate
Seasons in the southern hemisphere are opposed to ours: winter in Australia is used during our summer and spring during our fall. The size of the country creates regional differences. For convenience sake we divide the country in north and south. Generally speaking it rains in the north during the summer, making the period May to October the best travel time. At that very moment, it is much cooler in the south. The best travel period here is from October to April. The December-January holiday season is busy as it is the absolute high season.
