We're delighted to introduce you to the Smiling Gecko - Farmhouse resort & spa. This unique place was born of a chance encounter between Hannes Schmid, a renowned Swiss photographer, and a child from the slums of Phnom Penh in the 90s.
Today, the Farmhouse Resort & Spa offers not only an exceptional resort with an award winning spa, but also an NGO, a cooperative, a farm, agricultural and handicraft workshops and a renowned school, where every family in the region can enroll a child and offer him or her an exceptional education.
By choosing to stay at this exceptional resort, each guest participates in his or her own way in the development of this magnificent project, of rural Cambodia and of an entire local community.
Connections offers you a 4-day/3-night extension in a Deluxe Khmer room, breakfast included. Get ready for 4 exceptional days of exclusive comfort and sustainability.

Hotels & Meals
By and large, Cambodian cuisine resembles Thai cooking. The main difference is the degree of spiciness. Combodian food is less spicy. Rice is the main part of every meal including breakfast when rice soup is often served. Amok and Lok Lak are two classics on any cambodian menu. Amok is fish served in a banana leaf spiced with turmeric and sweetened with coconut milk. The tasty Lok Lak consists of beef that is cut into pieces, salad, fried egg and french fries or rice. Alternatively pork or chicken can be used. (Credit: SouthEastAsia Magazine)

Climate
Cambodia is a year-round destination.
There is little rain between November and May, the so-called dry season, which itself divides into two distinct phases. The cool season (Nov–Feb) is the peak time for tourism – mild enough to explore the temples in comfort but warm enough to sunbathe by the coast. Humidity and temperatures rise slightly during the hot season (March–May), with Phnom Penh and Battambang seeing peak daytime temperatures of 33–35°C. This is an excellent time to visit the coast. Angkor may be bakingly hot.
Visiting Cambodia during the rainy season (roughly June–Oct) may present certain practical challenges, but it is also a fascinating time to see the country as it transforms into a waterlogged expanse of tropical green under the daily monsoon deluges (fortunately, the rains falls mainly in the afternoon; mornings are generally dry). Getting around (particularly in September and October) isn’t always easy: dirt roads turn to mud and flooding is commonplace. Not surprisingly it’s also the quietest time for tourism (even Angkor is relatively quiet) and the countryside is at its lushest.
