A complete change of scenery through Kruger, private reserves, Kosi Bay and the Drakensberg
This South Africa tour is designed for travellers who dream of a self drive road trip, without giving up the intensity of the country’s finest nature moments. From Johannesburg, you head towards Mpumalanga, crossing cooler highlands and ever changing landscapes before diving into the bush of the Greater Kruger. Safaris in private reserves, open 4x4 game drives, outings at the best times of day and a Kruger self drive crossing create a complete, well paced and varied experience, where every track can turn into a highlight.
The Panorama Route then adds a spectacular dimension, with dramatic viewpoints, waterfalls and gorges, before a cultural interlude in Eswatini, perfect for a change of atmosphere and scenery.
After that, the itinerary shifts to another side of South Africa, more tropical and water rich: northern KwaZulu Natal, the Manguzi region and Kosi Bay, with calm lakes, raffia palm forests and that rare feeling of being at the edge of the world. In St Lucia, you discover the wetlands from the estuary on a cruise, before a fresh coastal pause. The finale unfolds at altitude in the Drakensberg, with powerful mountain landscapes, big open hikes and the adventure of Sani Pass.

Highlights of this tour

Fauna and flora, nature as the common thread
This journey is not only about the Big Five, it also tells the story of ecosystems. Savanna and acacias, gorges and waterfalls along the Panorama Route, the rolling hills of Hluhluwe, the wetlands of St Lucia, and then the dramatic forms of the Drakensberg.

Varied safaris, from Greater Kruger to Hluhluwe
Between private reserves in a 4x4, Kruger at your own pace and a self drive in Hluhluwe, you multiply approaches and atmospheres. Golden morning light, wild tracks and green hills come together for a complete safari, with great chances to spot the Big Five.

Kosi Bay, an escape at the end of the world
Kosi Bay reveals a more secret Africa, shaped by still lakes, raffia palm forests and wild beaches on the Mozambique border. You glide by canoe over mirror like water, walk beneath palms and let time slow down, carried by birdsong.
