Safari in Tanzania

A safari in Tanzania is a life-changing experience. Nowhere else in the world will you find such a high concentration of wildlife in its natural habitat. During your safari, you travel in a comfortable open-roof 4x4 vehicle, accompanied by experienced rangers who know the savannah inside out. They know exactly where your chances are highest to spot lions, leopards and cheetahs. Early mornings and late afternoons are ideal times for game drives, when animals are most active. Don’t forget your binoculars and camera, as photo opportunities are endless during your Tanzania safari adventure.

National Parks in Tanzania

Tanzania is home to some of the most impressive national parks in the world. Serengeti National Park, world-famous for the annual Great Migration of millions of wildebeest and zebras, offers a natural spectacle unlike any other. In Tarangire National Park, you will encounter majestic baobab trees and large herds of elephants. Lake Manyara is renowned for its flamingos and tree-climbing lions. The Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, functions as a natural wildlife sanctuary where nearly all African animal species coexist within an area of 260 square kilometres. Each park has its own unique ecosystem and showcases a different facet of Tanzania’s rich biodiversity.

Zanzibar

After an intense safari through Tanzania, the tropical island of Zanzibar offers the perfect opportunity to unwind. This idyllic island in the Indian Ocean welcomes you with pristine white-sand beaches, swaying palm trees and crystal-clear turquoise waters. Explore Stone Town, the historic centre and UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you can wander through narrow alleys lined with colourful bazaars and buildings reflecting a rich blend of Arab, Persian, Indian and European influences. Enjoy fresh seafood, visit the spice plantations that once earned Zanzibar its nickname as the “Spice Island,” and indulge yourself in one of the island’s luxurious beach resorts. Zanzibar provides the perfect contrast to the wildlife of mainland Tanzania.

Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro

Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak at 5,895 metres, presents a majestic challenge for adventurous travellers. Unlike other high-altitude mountains, climbing Kilimanjaro does not require technical mountaineering skills, but it does demand good physical fitness and determination. Several routes lead to the summit, each with its own character and level of difficulty. The Machame Route is popular for its spectacular scenery, while the Marangu Route is known for its hut accommodations. During the ascent, you pass through multiple climate zones, from rainforest to alpine desert and finally the arctic tundra landscape near the summit. Reaching the top at sunrise and gazing out above the clouds is an unforgettable experience.

Best Time to Travel to Tanzania

Tanzania has two dry seasons that are ideal for a safari adventure. From June to October, the long dry season brings pleasant temperatures and little rainfall. Vegetation is less dense, making it easier to spot wildlife around water sources. This is also the best period to witness the Great Migration in the Serengeti. The short dry season from December to February also offers excellent game-viewing opportunities, with the added benefit of fewer tourists. For beach lovers, Zanzibar is enjoyable year-round, with temperatures rarely dropping below 25°C. Planning to climb Mount Kilimanjaro? Choose January, February or September, when conditions on the mountain are most favourable.
