Travel Documents
  • Travel documents: All Belgian nationals* (children and babies included) must be in possession of an international e-passport (biometric) containing min. 2 blank pages, valid at day of entry and during the entire stay. Connections recommends to let common sense prevail and to build in some slack in terms of validity. Often unforeseen circumstances (weather factors, volcanoes, and threats all kinds) are the cause of a mandatory postponed return date. A credit card is required upon check-in at the hotels and also when renting a car. Please keep this in mind. We strongly recommend you to print out the Esta- or Eta permit and to have it on you while you travel to avoid problems.

  • All passengers who travel to and /or via the U.S. must apply for an electronic travel authorization at least 72 hours prior to departure. The ESTA ($ 40) procedure must be requested via the official website link https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov and paid by a personal credit card only.

  • Travellers who have visited Cuba since 12 January 2021 or who wish to travel to Cuba prior to a visit to the United States are not eligible for ESTA and must apply for a US visa at a US Consulate before travelling to the US.

  • Travellers with a non-Belgian nationality and / or travellers travelling on a foreign passport are invited to spontaneously report this matter to the Connections travel consultant and shall contact their respective embassy (s) or Consulate (ate) to obtain the latest updates concerning all current travel requirements and documents. They must apply for an electronic travel authorization at least 72 hours prior to departure via the official website link https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov and pay by a personal credit card only.

Payments methods

A personal credit card is required upon check-in at the hotels and also when renting a car. The most convenient method of payment is by credit card but cash euros and dollars in small amount come in handy. Inform yourself timely, as from January 15, 2015 your Visa and/or MasterCard credit card (and possibly other types of credit cards) has automatically been set to "not for use in the US, for US car rental agencies and during cruises under the American flag".

You must then apply for a release of your credit card. This may be done prior to your arrival in the U.S. (in your bank branch or via the telephone number listed on the back of your credit card or by means of a special form available for PC banking) as well as after arrival in the US (through a withdrawal at an ATM. Please note, in this case there will be a transaction fee charged to your account). The same applies to the Maestro function in your bank card.

Utah’s Most Beautiful National Parks

Utah offers an unmatched concentration of spectacular national parks to discover during this tour. Zion National Park surprises with deep canyons and majestic cliffs, where adventurous hikes lead to breathtaking viewpoints. In Bryce Canyon National Park, admire the unique hoodoos – brightly colored sandstone spires rising like surreal sculptures from the landscape. Arches National Park features more than 2,000 natural stone arches, including the iconic Delicate Arch. Canyonlands National Park, divided into sections such as Island in the Sky, reveals an awe-inspiring landscape carved by the Colorado River. Each park has its own character and offers unforgettable natural experiences.

Visiting the Grand Canyon on Your Tour

The Grand Canyon is without a doubt one of the highlights of your Utah journey. This giant chasm, carved by the Colorado River, plunges as deep as 1.6 kilometers and offers panoramas found nowhere else on earth. On this trip, you’ll visit the less crowded North Rim, where you can enjoy peaceful viewpoints and a different perspective of the canyon than most tourists see. Located at about 2,400 meters above sea level, the North Rim offers cooler summer temperatures and equally spectacular vistas that emphasize the canyon’s immense scale. An unforgettable experience that elevates your connection with nature.

Monument Valley and Iconic Landscapes

Monument Valley is the beating heart of the American West, offering a landscape that fires the imagination. Its iconic red sandstone buttes and mesas have been immortalized in countless western films and advertisements. While staying in this area, straddling the Utah-Arizona border, you’ll encounter the rich culture of the Navajo people, who have called this sacred land home for generations. The red desert framed by the blue sky creates a surreal backdrop, perfect for dramatic sunrises and sunsets. A drive along Valley Drive will take you past the most famous formations, including the “mittens,” two striking mesas rising like giant gloves from the desert floor.

Las Vegas as Start and End Point

Las Vegas is the perfect gateway to your Utah and Grand Canyon road trip. This bustling city of lights and entertainment provides a fascinating contrast to the natural beauty you’ll discover throughout your journey. Upon arrival, simply pick up your rental car at the airport, and soon Route 66 and the spectacular national parks are within reach. After days of exploring nature, you can end your trip with the comfort and luxury of world-famous hotels, dazzling shows, and gourmet dining. Las Vegas also offers excellent shopping opportunities to pick up souvenirs before heading home, while the lively Strip ensures a dazzling finale to your adventure.

Practical Tips for Your Utah Road Trip

Good preparation will make your Utah road trip even more enjoyable. The best time to travel this route is from April to October, with spring and fall offering more pleasant temperatures than the hot summer months. Keep in mind that desert areas can get quite chilly at night, even in summer. A rental car is essential – ideally with enough luggage space and air conditioning. Book accommodations well in advance, especially in high season when the national parks attract many visitors. Consider purchasing an America the Beautiful Pass (around $80) for unlimited access to all national parks. Be sure to bring plenty of water, sun protection, and sturdy hiking shoes to fully enjoy the natural wonders.

Moab as a Base for Adventure

The town of Moab is the ideal base for exploring some of Utah’s most spectacular natural areas. Perfectly located between Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park, it allows you to spend several days exploring these wonders. Moab is also famous for its outdoor activities: mountain biking the world-renowned Slickrock Trail, rafting on the Colorado River, or joining an adventurous jeep safari through rugged terrain. After a day of exploration, Moab’s cozy restaurants and cafés are the perfect place to relax. The town’s laid-back, bohemian atmosphere, with shops offering local art, outdoor gear, and unique souvenirs, makes your stay complete.
