From dream to family tradition

What started as a unique opportunity soon evolved into an annual tradition: at least one long-haul family trip every year. A shared goal to look forward to, plan for, and experience together.

During the early years, the family often travelled throughout Asia. Destinations such as Southern Thailand and Bali left a lasting impression, not only because of their natural beauty but also because of their atmosphere, the people they met, and the sense of freedom they experienced.

For them, travel has never been only about destinations. It is about experiences.

Costa Rica, visited shortly after the pandemic, offered everything they were looking for: adventure, breathtaking nature, and precious family time together again. The Philippines brought another unforgettable chapter, including a boat trip from Puerto Princesa to Coron, overnight stays in simple island base camps, and days spent snorkeling in crystal-clear waters.

There was no luxury involved, just authentic experiences. And that is exactly what made it so memorable.

Sometimes, unexpected bonuses became part of the story as well. During the year they won, their summer holiday had already been planned, which meant they suddenly found themselves enjoying an extra city break in New York.  A bonus that made the adventure even greater.

Vietnam Is Calling Again

This summer, Vietnam is once again on the itinerary. Having already explored the north and south of the country, the family is now ready to discover the central region.

Why return?

“We previously visited both Northern and Southern Vietnam and absolutely loved the experience. Central Vietnam is still missing from our list. In addition, the country offers enough variety and activities to keep our teenagers engaged and excited.” – Fleur

Vietnam combines vibrant cities, spectacular landscapes, outstanding cuisine, and a unique atmosphere. More importantly, it continues to offer new experiences, even for returning visitors.

This time, they have chosen an even more adventurous way of travelling: overnight trains and sleeper buses. The idea came from friends and immediately sparked their curiosity.

“When we looked into it, we were fascinated by how comfortable the sleeper buses seemed. It’s also an efficient way to travel because you move during the night and avoid wasting valuable time on additional flights.” – Jeroen

What are they most looking forward to?

“The combination of delicious food, the unique atmosphere, and spending quality time together as a family. This trip will be extra special because we’ll be staying in different places and spending several nights travelling by bus and train.” – Fleur

When it comes to souvenirs, they prefer to travel light.

“We deliberately avoid bringing souvenirs home. For us, the experiences themselves are the most valuable keepsakes.” – Jeroen

Because, in their eyes, true wealth lies in memories.

Travel as a way of life

What began as a carefully considered contest entry evolved into a travel story with no end date. Not one destination. Not one trip. But a lifetime filled with meaningful experiences and unforgettable moments.

Vietnam is therefore not the end of the journey, it is simply the next chapter. And we cannot wait to hear the stories that follow.
