Eastern Canada: A Destination with a Thousand Faces

My name is Joy, and I am a travel agent at Connections Leuven. In early June 2025, I had the opportunity to take part in a study trip to Eastern Canada, specifically to the province of Quebec. For me, nothing beats this kind of experience to truly understand a destination: moving around like the locals, feeling the atmosphere, and living moments that stay with you long after you return home.

As soon as we landed in Montreal, we hit the road toward Quebec City. That first drive already set the tone: vast landscapes, abundant greenery, and a serenity that naturally invites you to slow down. Quebec City charmed me with its authenticity and European flair. A nighttime stroll through Old Quebec, after a cozy dinner at Restaurant D’Orsay, was the perfect introduction. The soft light on the city walls and Château Frontenac revealed a simple truth: this is not a place to rush through.

Throughout the trip, cities and nature alternated seamlessly. In Quebec City, we dove into history with a local guide in period costume, before being awed by the Montmorency Falls. These contrasts explain why so many travelers fall in love with Quebec.

Then nature took center stage. In Tadoussac, on the edge of the Saguenay fjords, silence and vastness prevailed. We boarded a zodiac for a whale-watching excursion. Even without spotting whales, the experience was magical: the open sea, the wild coastline, and that humbling feeling of being at nature’s mercy.

Saguenay and Val-Jalbert offered evenings of absolute calm. Auberge du Cap au Leste, perched in the forest, embodies total escape. Add to that tastings at a vineyard and a microbrewery, and you understand how much local products matter here.

One of the most memorable moments? Wendake, the Huron-Wendat community. Staying at Hôtel-Musée Premiers Nations and listening to stories around the fire in the National Longhouse Ekionkiestha was a unique experience, full of respect and depth. The Onhwa’ Lumina night walk, blending light, nature, and legends, remains etched in my memory.

The Mauricie region also impressed us: a sweet stop at a traditional sugar shack, immersion at Hôtel Sacacomie, outdoor activities, and spa relaxation. Here, everything invites you to slow down and reconnect.

Finally, Montreal welcomed us with its urban energy, a striking contrast to the tranquility of previous days. An e-bike tour through its neighborhoods let us explore at a relaxed pace, confirming Eastern Canada’s versatility: from untamed nature to vibrant cities, the balance is perfect.

My advice? Don not over-plan. The best memories often come from the unexpected, a view, a meeting, a shared silence.

My favorite spot? Tadoussac. Not just for the whales, but for that rare feeling of vastness and peace.

In short, Eastern Canada is not a destination to tick off a list. It is a region to experience fully. With its breathtaking landscapes, rich culture, and warm, welcoming people, it offers an authentic and unforgettable journey. An absolute recommendation for anyone looking to be surprised.
