Tine & Dieter in New York
New York is alive. It’s bustling, full of surprises, changing every day, and gives you the feeling that there’s something to discover on every street corner. That’s exactly why we at Connections are sending two young, curious students out to explore: Tine and Dieter.
They’ll be staying in New York for a few months, right in the thick of the action. Not as ordinary tourists, but as interns for our New York expert, Patrick van Rosendaal. Together with him, they’ll explore the neighborhoods, check out local spots, and search for those little details that make the difference between an ordinary city trip and a real New York experience.
Why? Because the best travel tips aren’t just found in guidebooks. They come from experiencing things firsthand. From testing them out. From trying them. And sometimes from simply turning down a street you hadn’t actually planned to go down… and discovering something fantastic there.
With Patrick’s experience and Tine and Dieter’s fresh perspective, we at Connections are always on the hunt for the very best New York has to offer—so you can enjoy it to the fullest.
During their stay in New York, Tine and Dieter explore the city in their own unique way—from trendy breakfast spots in Brooklyn to hidden neighborhoods full of character, from rooftop bars in Manhattan to practical tips for the subway, shopping, and sightseeing.
Follow them on Instagram and be the first to hear about their adventures.
Are you crazy about New York, or do you dream of a city trip that has just that little bit extra? Check this page regularly, because Tine and Dieter share their latest updates, favorite spots, and stories from the city that never sleeps here.

Hello! I’d like to introduce myself.
My name is Tine, I’m 22 years old, and I’m from Culemborg, a charming little town in the Netherlands where I’ve lived my whole life. My love for travel and my curiosity about the world were instilled in me from a young age. In 2021, I had the opportunity to participate in an exchange program in the United States, an experience that only strengthened my passion for tourism.
In 2023, I took another big step and moved to Mechelen to study International Tourism and Leisure Management at Thomas More. Moving from the Netherlands to Belgium was an adventure in itself: discovering a new culture and living in a dorm for the first time. In addition to everything I learned there, I also met so many wonderful people and made beautiful memories. My internship here in New York City therefore feels like the perfect way to wrap up my student years.
When I’m in the Netherlands, I work at a restaurant and occasionally coach at my gymnastics club, where I used to compete for eleven years myself.
A fun fact about me: Austria is my favorite vacation destination! I absolutely love the nature there, and in the winter I even give ski lessons from time to time.
It’s so great that you’re following us on our adventure in New York City!
Hello everyone! I’m Dieter, 24 years old, and originally from Leuven, though I’ve since gained quite a bit of international experience. Although my roots are in Leuven, I moved to Lugano, Switzerland, when I was four. I grew up there and spent my school years there, until, at nineteen, it was time to return to my hometown to continue my studies.
In 2023, I started the International Tourism and Leisure Management program at Thomas More in Mechelen. That choice ultimately led me to an absolute highlight: finishing my studies with a dream internship here in New York City!
When I’m not working, you’ll probably find me in front of a screen or out on my bike. I’m a true sports enthusiast with a deep passion for cycling, soccer, and Formula 1. I’ve had that sports bug since I was a kid: I swam competitively in Lugano for thirteen years. Today, I like to stay in shape by going for regular runs or bike rides whenever I get the chance.
Thank you for following us and being part of this special adventure in New York City!

New York at 28 degrees & 5 food tips
With the temperature at 28 degrees, there’s only one right way to experience New York: walking, exploring, and, above all, eating well.
Tine and Dieter share their 5 favorite food tips in the city:
A refreshing ice cream as the perfect break on a hot day
A classic American breakfast with pancakes for breakfast or brunch
Lunch at a local deli for that authentic New York vibe
A stop at Raising Cane’s for a quick and tasty bite
End the evening with dinner in Hell’s Kitchen, a neighborhood full of atmosphere and cozy restaurants
Because you experience New York just as much through its flavors as you do through its sights.
Cycling Through Central Park
Together, Tine and Dieter welcome a group of travelers at New York’s airport, ready for a new city trip full of adventures.
One of their favorite activities? A bike tour through Central Park. During this tour, you’ll discover not only the park’s most famous spots but also the highlights just beyond its borders.
An ideal activity for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of Manhattan and experience the city in a different way.
First airport pickup & NBA vibes
For Tine and Dieter, this was their first airport pickup as tour guides in New York. Together with Connections, they welcomed the student group from Saint-Pierre with food, drinks, and a warm welcome to the city that never sleeps.
In addition to the welcome, the itinerary included a tour of Central Park and an absolute bucket-list experience: an evening at an NBA game.
The energy, the atmosphere, and the spectacle make this a quintessential New York moment you won’t soon forget.
