The South Island of New Zealand
New Zealand’s South Island welcomes you with an incredible diversity of landscapes. In the north, you can enjoy the beautiful Marlborough vineyards, while in Kaikoura you can spot whales and dolphins. The west coast impresses with spectacular glaciers such as Franz Josef and Fox, perfect for an unforgettable helicopter flight. In Queenstown, the adventure capital, you can go bungee jumping or rafting. The southern Fiordland National Park is home to the breathtaking Milford and Doubtful Sound, where steep cliffs rise from crystal-clear fjords. The rugged beauty of the South Island will stay with you forever.
Exploring the North Island
New Zealand’s North Island offers a fascinating mix of nature, culture, and adventure. Start your journey in the vibrant harbor city of Auckland, also known as the “City of Sails.” Then discover the subtropical Bay of Islands with its azure bays and rich Māori history. In Rotorua, experience the Earth’s geothermal power with bubbling mud pools and erupting geysers. Tongariro National Park, known from the Lord of the Rings films, invites you for spectacular hikes. Don’t forget to admire the art deco architecture of Napier and enjoy excellent wines in the surrounding regions. The North Island showcases the diversity that makes New Zealand so unique.
Best time to travel to New Zealand
The ideal period for your trip to New Zealand is from November to March. These summer months in the Southern Hemisphere offer pleasant temperatures between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius, perfect for outdoor activities such as hiking in national parks or kayaking along the coastline. Want to avoid the crowds? Consider the shoulder months of October and April, when the weather is still favorable but there are fewer tourists. Winter lovers can visit between June and September to enjoy the excellent ski resorts around Queenstown. Keep in mind that the weather in New Zealand can change quickly, so always pack clothing for different conditions, regardless of the season.
Accommodation during your trip
During your trip through New Zealand, you can stay in a wide range of accommodations suitable for every traveler and budget. From luxurious lodges with panoramic views to cozy bed & breakfasts where you can experience genuine Kiwi hospitality. Unique options include farm stays, where you stay with a local family on a working farm and experience rural life up close. In national parks, you’ll find well-maintained campsites and simple huts for true nature lovers. In cities such as Auckland, Wellington, and Queenstown, there is a wide selection of hotels and apartments. Our Travel Designers are happy to help you find the perfect mix of accommodations to complete your New Zealand experience.
Flights to New Zealand
Your journey to New Zealand begins with a long-haul flight from Belgium, usually with a stopover in Asia or the Middle East. Top airlines such as Emirates, Singapore Airlines, and Cathay Pacific offer comfortable connections to Auckland or Christchurch. The flight time is approximately 24 hours, depending on your stopover. We recommend taking a day to acclimatize upon arrival before starting your trip. You may also consider adding a stopover of a few days in destinations like Singapore, Hong Kong, or Dubai to break up the journey and add an extra destination to your trip. Our Travel Designers will find the ideal flight combination for you, taking into account travel time, comfort, and price.
