Climate

In the Southern Hemisphere, the seasons are reversed in relation to those we know. The summer therefore extends from December to March, the winter from June to September. The climate is largely determined by the latitude: semi-tropical at the end of the North Island, where temperatures are still quite mild (13° C in July, 23° C in February), The west coast of the South Island is at times subject to strong winds coming from the Antarctic. The North of the South Island and the East of the North Island are the sunniest regions while the dryest part of New Zealand can be found at the east coast of the South Island. The western part of the South Island and in Fjorland National Park get the most rain and are by far the greenest part of the country.
