Travel Documents
All Belgian nationals travelling on a Belgian passport (children and babies included) must be in possession of an international e-passport (electronic) containing min. 2 blank pages, valid for at least 1 day after their return home. All travellers to Canada must purchase an eTA or electronic Travel Authorisation online via the official website cic.gc.ca/english/visit/index.asp prior to entering Canadian territory via its airports. Price: 7 CAD or +/- 5 Euros. Your eTA is valid for 5 years and linked to your passport number. This implies that as soon as your passport expires, so does your eTA.
To save time at Customs and Immigration in Canada, you can download the CanBorder eDeclaration app before your arrival. You will then receive a QR-code that remains valid for 24 hours. Thanks to the scanning of the QR code, you do not have to re-enter your data on the screen at the Customs counters. You can download via the Apple Store app or Google Play app.
Please note: A credit card is required upon check-in at the hotels and also when renting a car. All cross-border travellers with the USA must on top be in possession of an international passport and an ESTA. The digital passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the set date of your return flight. The electronic travel authorization must be purchased online by means of a personal credit card via the official link https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/ (14 USD on 20JAN2015). Your ESTA is valid for max. 2 years. Should your international passport expire within that period, so does your ESTA as it is linked to your passport number. We strongly recommend you to print out the Esta- or Eta permit and to have it on you while you travel to avoid problems.
Travellers with a non-Belgian nationality and / or travellers travelling on a foreign passport are invited to spontaneously report this matter to the Connections travel consultant and shall contact their respective embassy (s) or Consulate (ate) to obtain the latest updates concerning all current travel requirements and documents.

Exploring the Icefields Parkway in Western Canada
The Icefields Parkway is without doubt one of the highlights of a journey through Western Canada. This 230-kilometer route connects Jasper with Lake Louise and is considered one of the most scenic drives in the world. Along the way, you’ll pass over 100 glaciers, countless waterfalls, and crystal-clear mountain lakes. Be sure to stop at the Columbia Icefield, the largest icefield in the Rockies, where you can ride the Ice Explorer onto the Athabasca Glacier. Other must-sees along this route include Peyto Lake, with its vibrant blue water, and Athabasca Falls, a powerful waterfall framed by dramatic rock formations. Allow plenty of time to explore this route – the views are truly breathtaking.
Discovering Banff National Park on Your Tour
Banff National Park, Canada’s first national park, is a paradise for nature lovers. During your stay in Banff, you can enjoy a wide range of activities such as hiking along the Bow Valley, visiting the historic Banff Springs Hotel, or relaxing in the Banff Hot Springs. Iconic Lake Louise, with its turquoise waters surrounded by towering mountains, is an absolute must-see. Stroll around the lake or rent a canoe for a unique perspective. Don’t forget to take Tunnel Mountain Drive for sweeping panoramic views of Banff and the surrounding mountain ranges. In the charming town of Banff itself, you’ll also find plenty of restaurants, shops, and museums showcasing the area’s rich history.
Exploring Vancouver at the End of Your Journey
After days of natural splendor in the Rockies, Vancouver offers the perfect finale to your trip. This vibrant coastal city combines urban luxury with a spectacular natural backdrop. Begin your exploration in Stanley Park, a 400-hectare green oasis with seawalls, forested trails, and the famous waterfront cycling path. The Capilano Suspension Bridge Park, with its treetop walkways and hanging bridges, provides a one-of-a-kind experience. Don’t miss Granville Island, a lively peninsula filled with art galleries, artisan shops, and a renowned public market brimming with fresh produce. Food lovers can indulge in fresh seafood at the many waterfront restaurants. Vancouver’s diverse neighborhoods, such as Gastown with its steam clock and historic buildings, are best explored on foot.
Highlights of Jasper National Park
Jasper National Park is the largest national park in the Canadian Rockies, offering rugged, unspoiled beauty with fewer crowds than Banff. A must-see is Maligne Lake, the second-largest glacial lake in the world. The boat cruise to Spirit Island provides one of the most photographed views in Canada. For wildlife enthusiasts, Jasper is a true paradise – keep your camera ready for elk, mountain goats, black bears, and grizzly bears. Athabasca Falls, a thundering waterfall that plunges into a narrow gorge, is another natural wonder not to be missed. In the evening, enjoy stargazing in this UNESCO-designated Dark Sky Preserve, where minimal light pollution creates unforgettable night skies.
Exploring Lake Louise and Surroundings
Enchanting Lake Louise is the beating heart of Banff National Park and is renowned for its turquoise waters and majestic mountain backdrop. Whether you stay in Baker Creek or Lake Louise, there are countless ways to experience this natural wonder. Start your day with a peaceful morning walk along the shore while the lake is still calm, offering perfect reflections. For a spectacular panorama, hike up to the Lake Agnes Tea House, where you can enjoy homemade treats with mountain views. Don’t forget to visit nearby Moraine Lake, whose deep blue waters and surrounding Valley of the Ten Peaks are often considered even more impressive than Lake Louise itself. In winter, the area transforms into a wonderland where you can skate on the frozen lake.
Practical Tips for Your Western Canada Tour
Good preparation will make your journey through Western Canada even more enjoyable. Book your car or RV well in advance, especially if traveling in high season (June–September). Keep in mind that distances between destinations can be long – plan enough driving time and breaks. When visiting national parks, a Park Pass is mandatory, available at the entrance gates or online in advance. Be prepared for changing weather conditions; even in summer, mountain temperatures can drop significantly, so pack layered clothing. Early mornings and late afternoons are the best times for wildlife spotting. Always carry enough water, snacks, and a full gas tank, as some stretches have limited services. Finally, always respect nature and wildlife – keep a safe distance and leave no trace.
