Travel Documents
  • All Belgian nationals travelling on a Belgian passport (children and babies included) must be in possession of an international e-passport (electronic) containing min. 2 blank pages, valid for at least 1 day after their return home. All travellers to Canada must purchase an eTA or electronic Travel Authorisation online via the official website cic.gc.ca/english/visit/index.asp prior to entering Canadian territory via its airports. Price: 7 CAD or +/- 5 Euros. Your eTA is valid for 5 years and linked to your passport number. This implies that as soon as your passport expires, so does your eTA.

  • To save time at Customs and Immigration in Canada, you can download the CanBorder eDeclaration app before your arrival. You will then receive a QR-code that remains valid for 24 hours. Thanks to the scanning of the QR code, you do not have to re-enter your data on the screen at the Customs counters. You can download via the Apple Store app or Google Play app.

  • Please note: A credit card is required upon check-in at the hotels and also when renting a car. All cross-border travellers with the USA must on top be in possession of an international passport and an ESTA. The digital passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the set date of your return flight. The electronic travel authorization must be purchased online by means of a personal credit card via the official link https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/ (14 USD on 20JAN2015). Your ESTA is valid for max. 2 years. Should your international passport expire within that period, so does your ESTA as it is linked to your passport number. We strongly recommend you to print out the Esta- or Eta permit and to have it on you while you travel to avoid problems.

  • Travellers with a non-Belgian nationality and / or travellers travelling on a foreign passport are invited to spontaneously report this matter to the Connections travel consultant and shall contact their respective embassy (s) or Consulate (ate) to obtain the latest updates concerning all current travel requirements and documents.

Adventurous hiking routes for nature lovers

The Trails of Modern Explorers journey is a dream come true for adventurers and nature enthusiasts eager to explore the best of Eastern Canada. Over the course of 15 days, you’ll hike through pristine wilderness areas such as the impressive Algonquin Provincial Park, where dense pine forests and crystal-clear lakes provide a home to diverse wildlife. Each route has been carefully planned so you can enjoy the natural beauty of Ontario and Quebec at your own pace. You’ll be amazed by the breathtaking views you’ll encounter on hikes past waterfalls, coastlines, and mountain landscapes that make this region so unique.

Unique B&B experiences along the route

What truly sets this Canadian tour apart is the stay in authentic Bed & Breakfasts throughout the entire route. Unlike standard hotels, these B&Bs offer a personal touch and a warm welcome from local Canadians. Each overnight stay is a new opportunity to experience genuine Canadian hospitality and receive valuable insider tips about hidden gems you won’t find in guidebooks. The small-scale setting creates a cozy, homelike atmosphere where you can relax after a day full of impressions. Many of these accommodations also serve breakfasts made with local products, giving you a taste of the region’s culinary traditions.

Discovering the highlights of Ontario and Quebec

This tour seamlessly combines the major highlights of Ontario and Quebec with hidden gems you would never discover on your own. From the bustling metropolis of Toronto to the historic streets of Quebec City, and from the mighty Niagara Falls to the peaceful beauty of the 1000 Islands, this trail strikes the perfect balance. Along the way, you’ll also visit charming places such as Huntsville, Montreal, and the picturesque Île-aux-Coudres. Included boat trips at Niagara Falls and in Quebec provide you with a unique perspective on these iconic sites. With this blend of cities, nature, and cultural experiences, you’ll gain a well-rounded view of Eastern Canada.

Whale watching and wildlife encounters

One of the most unforgettable experiences of this tour is the chance to see whales in their natural habitat. In the Saguenay region, particularly in Tadoussac, you’ll be at one of the world’s best whale-watching locations. The unique mix of fresh river water and salty sea water in the St. Lawrence estuary creates a nutrient-rich ecosystem that attracts various whale species. But you’ll also have great opportunities to spot wildlife in other natural areas along the route, such as Algonquin Provincial Park. From majestic moose and black bears to beavers and a wide variety of birds, nature lovers will be in their element.

Practical tips for your Canadian road trip

A self-drive through Canada requires good preparation for a smooth and worry-free journey. First, make sure to obtain a valid eTA, which you can easily apply for online before departure. The personalized roadbook you’ll receive includes valuable information about routes, attractions, and practical advice. Keep in mind the vast distances between destinations and schedule enough breaks to enjoy the scenery. Canada’s road network is well-maintained, but in remote areas, mobile coverage may be limited. Having a paper map as a backup is therefore highly recommended. Also, don’t forget that gas stations in sparsely populated areas can be far apart, so be sure to refuel in time.
