Travel Documents
All Belgian nationals travelling on a Belgian passport (children and babies included) must be in possession of an international e-passport (electronic) containing min. 2 blank pages, valid for at least 1 day after their return home. All travellers to Canada must purchase an eTA or electronic Travel Authorisation online via the official website cic.gc.ca/english/visit/index.asp prior to entering Canadian territory via its airports. Price: 7 CAD or +/- 5 Euros. Your eTA is valid for 5 years and linked to your passport number. This implies that as soon as your passport expires, so does your eTA.
To save time at Customs and Immigration in Canada, you can download the CanBorder eDeclaration app before your arrival. You will then receive a QR-code that remains valid for 24 hours. Thanks to the scanning of the QR code, you do not have to re-enter your data on the screen at the Customs counters. You can download via the Apple Store app or Google Play app.
Please note: A credit card is required upon check-in at the hotels and also when renting a car. All cross-border travellers with the USA must on top be in possession of an international passport and an ESTA. The digital passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the set date of your return flight. The electronic travel authorization must be purchased online by means of a personal credit card via the official link https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/ (14 USD on 20JAN2015). Your ESTA is valid for max. 2 years. Should your international passport expire within that period, so does your ESTA as it is linked to your passport number. We strongly recommend you to print out the Esta- or Eta permit and to have it on you while you travel to avoid problems.
Travellers with a non-Belgian nationality and / or travellers travelling on a foreign passport are invited to spontaneously report this matter to the Connections travel consultant and shall contact their respective embassy (s) or Consulate (ate) to obtain the latest updates concerning all current travel requirements and documents.

The Rich Culture and History of Eastern Canada
During your journey through Eastern Canada, you’ll encounter a fascinating blend of English and French influences that make this region so unique. In Quebec City — often considered the most European city in North America — you’ll stroll through cobblestone streets lined with historic buildings dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries. The old city walls and the majestic Château Frontenac transport you back in time. In Montreal, you’ll experience a vibrant metropolis where modern architecture blends seamlessly with historic districts like Old Montreal. The Notre-Dame Basilica is a must-see highlight with its breathtaking interior. Toronto and Ottawa also offer a wealth of cultural experiences, from museums and art galleries to landmarks that tell the story of Canada’s transformation into the modern nation it is today.
Discovering the Natural Beauty of Eastern Canada
Eastern Canada boasts an impressive variety of landscapes that you’ll experience up close during this tour. Beyond the world-famous Niagara Falls, you’ll visit the picturesque Thousand Islands, a breathtaking region of over 1,800 small islands scattered along the St. Lawrence River. In Quebec province, you’ll marvel at the majestic Saguenay Fjord — one of the southernmost fjords in the world — where you might even spot whales. The Mauricie region offers vast forests, crystal-clear lakes, and rivers showcasing the wild beauty of Canada’s great outdoors. During your stay at Lac-à-l’Eau-Claire, you’ll have the chance to explore unspoiled nature and perhaps spot moose, beavers, or black bears in their natural habitat. This combination of waterfalls, lakes, and dense forests makes Eastern Canada a true paradise for nature lovers.
Practical Tips for Your Eastern Canada Tour
A well-prepared trip is key to fully enjoying your journey through Eastern Canada. Keep the seasons in mind: summer (June to September) is ideal for this tour thanks to pleasant temperatures, while spring (May) and autumn (October) offer fewer tourists but slightly cooler weather. Remember that French is the dominant language in Quebec, though English is widely spoken in tourist areas. Make sure your passport and eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization) are arranged in advance to avoid delays. Credit cards are essential for payments in Canada — not only for hotel reservations but also for everyday purchases. Finally, plan your travel distances carefully: Eastern Canada is vast, and travel times between destinations can be longer than in Europe.
Culinary Highlights of Eastern Canada
A tour of Eastern Canada wouldn’t be complete without discovering its rich culinary traditions. In Quebec, you can taste authentic Québécois dishes such as poutine (fries with cheese curds and gravy), tourtière (meat pie), and sweet maple taffy made from maple syrup. At a traditional sugar shack in the Mauricie region, you’ll learn all about the centuries-old process of harvesting and refining maple sap. In coastal towns like Tadoussac, enjoy fresh seafood including lobster, crab, and mussels prepared according to local recipes. Toronto’s multicultural character offers an international food scene with influences from around the world. Montreal is famous for its bagels, smoked meat, and dynamic dining culture filled with trendy restaurants and cozy bistros. Don’t forget to sample Canadian ice wine or locally brewed craft beer to complete your culinary journey.
