Is trekking to the hidden jungle temples 'Ciudad Perdida' ( 3 nights in hammocks full board plus 1 extra night accommodation in Santa Marta) part of your bucket list? Yes, you can! Some say the trip is even more adventurous and impressive as the lost city itself. Please mind the heat and the humidity may play an important factor. Book early as very popular! Your travel itinerary will look like this :

• Day 9: Start of your hike to the 'Cuidad Perdida'. After breakfast transfer to the starting point of the walk. (+/- 3 hours) from Mamey to Camp Adan or Cabanas de Alfredo. 3 nights in hammocks on the basis of full board accommodation;

• The Ciudad Perdida or lost city is where the Tayrona Indians once lived. The city was overgrown for about 350 years by vineyards, trees and moss.

• Day 10: Adán > Gabriel: +/-8-hour hike from Camp Adan to Camp Gabriel.

• Day 11: Gabriel > Ciudad Perdida > Teyuna: +/- 6-hour hike from Camp Gabriel to Romualdo and on to the Cuidad Perdida and Teyuna.

• Day 12: Teyuna > Gabriel > Santa Marta: ,r+/- 4 hour return hike from Teyuna to Gabriel and to the starting point of the trekking. Transfer to Santa Marta and overnight stay at hotel Casa Verde.

• Day 13: Continuation of your trip by coach to Cartagena (from one hotel to the next). This itinerary is followed by the 3-night stay at Cartagena as programed in the day-to-day route.

Hotels & Meals

Colombia offers a very varied cuisine based on ancient, region-specific traditions. Of course it is slightly seasoned with influences from neighbouring countries. Columbia does not really have one national dish, but two competitors come very close. Arepas (a kind of pancake made of cornmeal) and Sancocho (a soup made of a certain kind of banana, potato and meat). For fruit enthusiast Colombia is the place to be. Fruits such as pineapple, banana, pitahaya, etc abound and are juicy and delightful thanks to the ideal climate! What we call exotic fruit grows naturally right in the woods or the countryside.

Travel Documents

• Travel documents: All Belgian nationals* (children and babies included) must be in possession of an international e-passport (biometric) containing min. 2 blank pages, valid for at least 6 months after the day of departure.

Climate

The country offers a year-round excellent climate for travelling. Temperatures will vary according to your position in relation to sea level. As a general rule, deduct 6°C with every 1000m altitude. Below the 1000 m level Colombia enjoys a tropical climate with an average of 25 ° C, also known as 'Tierra Caliente', but even between 1000m and 2000m the climate is mild and similar to a European summer.

In Colombia there are no real seasons: there is only the difference between winter (rain) and summer (dry). Summer usually lasts from December to March and from July to August. The rainy winter season usually sets in around April, May, October and November. Rainfall is never constant though. Due to the influence of the meteorological phenomena such as El Nino "and" La Nina "it may proff difficult to predict the weather.
