The highlights of Colombia during your round trip

A round trip through Colombia takes you along an impressive variety of landscapes and cultures. Start your adventure in Bogotá, where the historic district of La Candelaria and the fascinating Gold Museum immerse you in the country’s rich history. Then travel to Medellín, the city of eternal spring, where you’ll experience the transformation of this vibrant metropolis. A must-see is colorful Guatapé with its iconic El Peñol rock. In the Coffee Region around Salento, walk through lush coffee plantations and enjoy an unforgettable hike in the Cocora Valley with its distinctive wax palm trees. Your journey is not complete without a visit to colonial Cartagena, where the walled old city takes you back in time.

Tayrona National Park and the Caribbean coast

Colombia’s northern Caribbean coast offers a perfect combination of natural beauty and cultural richness. Tayrona National Park is undoubtedly a highlight of your trip. This protected area surprises visitors with a unique landscape where lush rainforest seamlessly meets white sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters. From the coastal town of Santa Marta, you can easily reach this peaceful haven. A bit further inland lies the mountain village of Minca, an ideal base to explore the Sierra Nevada, where you can enjoy spectacular sunsets and some of the country’s best coffee. For more adventurous travelers, the region also offers the opportunity to discover Ciudad Perdida (Lost City), an archaeological treasure hidden deep in the jungle.

Practical information for your trip to Colombia

Colombia can be visited year-round, although different regions have their own climate patterns. The driest periods in the Andes run from December to March and from July to August. No mandatory vaccinations are required, but a yellow fever vaccination is recommended, especially if you visit Tayrona or other natural areas. Colombian cuisine is diverse, offering local specialties such as bandeja paisa and fresh arepas. During your stay, it’s useful to know some basic Spanish, although English is increasingly spoken in tourist areas. Public transportation is well organized, but for maximum comfort, private transport is recommended, especially for longer distances. With these practical tips, nothing stands in the way of an unforgettable Colombia experience.
