Must-Sees in Lisbon


The oldest district of Lisbon. It is the only part of Lisbon which withstood the devastating 1755 earthquake. Hop on the famous tram 28 to get there. Once in Alfama make sure you visit the pleasant Castelo de São Jorge with stunning views over the Tagus and the city and stroll through its numerous steep street alley or enter a bar and listen to the melancholic fado concert.  

Tower of Belém

This fortified tower on the banks of the Tagus River is a stunning landmark dedicated to Vasco da Gama out of recognition for his explorations which brought status and wealth to Portugal. A definitely must-do on your city trip to Lisbon. 

Pastéis de Belém

A deliciously sweet local pastry whose secret recipe is carefully kept secret. The original Pastéis de Belém can only be found in the Antiga Confeitaria de Belém. So do not forget to plan a visit in on your city trip schedule. 

Santa Justa-lift

connects Santa Justa in the heart of Lisbon with its more elevated Carmo square. The 45 meter high elevator was designed by Raul Mesnier, a student of Gustav Eiffel. a spiral staircase leads up from the square to a panoramic terrace; the place for exceptional photos of the neighbourhood and city.
