Saguenay Fjord, in the heart of winter
The majestic Saguenay Fjord stretches all the way to the St. Lawrence River, flanked by towering cliffs draped in dense boreal forest. Only a few hours from Quebec City, this region seems a world away from civilization once winter sets in. As soon as the first snow falls, roads, trails and valleys disappear beneath a thick blanket of white, while ice traps the dark waters of the fjord, isolating the villages nestling on its shores.
Here, in the face of the harshness of the season, the inhabitants form a close-knit community, welcoming travelers with that human warmth unique to those who live in the kingdom of the cold. Trappers, songwriters, mushers... these colorful characters leave a lasting impression on those who cross their path.
By snowmobile, dog sled or snowshoe, they'll guide you through their Saguenay: one of blazing sunsets over the frozen fjord, deep forests where firs bend under the snow, and evenings around the fire, under a sky of striking clarity, where the stars shine like nowhere else.

Travel Documents
All Belgian nationals travelling on a Belgian passport (children and babies included) must be in possession of an international e-passport (electronic) containing min. 2 blank pages, valid for at least 1 day after their return home. All travellers to Canada must purchase an eTA or electronic Travel Authorisation online via the official website cic.gc.ca/english/visit/index.asp prior to entering Canadian territory via its airports. Price: 7 CAD or +/- 5 Euros. Your eTA is valid for 5 years and linked to your passport number. This implies that as soon as your passport expires, so does your eTA.
To save time at Customs and Immigration in Canada, you can download the CanBorder eDeclaration app before your arrival. You will then receive a QR-code that remains valid for 24 hours. Thanks to the scanning of the QR code, you do not have to re-enter your data on the screen at the Customs counters. You can download via the Apple Store app or Google Play app.
Please note: A credit card is required upon check-in at the hotels and also when renting a car. All cross-border travellers with the USA must on top be in possession of an international passport and an ESTA. The digital passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the set date of your return flight. Your ESTA is valid for max. 2 years. Should your international passport expire within that period, so does your ESTA as it is linked to your passport number. We strongly recommend you to print out the Esta- or Eta permit and to have it on you while you travel to avoid problems.
Travellers with a non-Belgian nationality and / or travellers travelling on a foreign passport are invited to spontaneously report this matter to the Connections travel consultant and shall contact their respective embassy (s) or Consulate (ate) to obtain the latest updates concerning all current travel requirements and documents.

Discover Canada’s Winter Wonders
A winter journey through Canada offers a completely different perspective than the summer months. As temperatures drop below zero, the vast landscapes transform into a fairytale wonderland. The Saguenay Fjord, with its majestic cliffs blanketed in snow, is one of Eastern Canada’s most breathtaking natural sights. Time seems to stand still as the calm of nature surrounds you. The fjord often partially freezes, creating stunning ice formations that sparkle in the sunlight. This enchanting backdrop is perfect for thrilling activities like dog sledding and snowshoeing.
Eastern Canada in Winter
Winter transforms Eastern Canada into a snowy paradise waiting to be explored. Quebec City, with its historic old town and cobblestone streets, becomes even more charming under a fresh layer of snow. The ancient fortifications and the iconic Château Frontenac glow warmly against the winter night sky. Montreal, the cosmopolitan metropolis, remains lively in winter with its vast underground city filled with shops, cafés, and metro stations, allowing you to explore comfortably without facing the cold. Both cities host numerous winter festivals, such as the famous Québec Winter Carnival, featuring ice sculptures, snow sports, and traditional Canadian treats. The warmth of the Québécois people beautifully contrasts with the chilly temperatures.
Winter Activities in Canada
A winter trip through Canada brings endless opportunities for excitement. Driving a snowmobile through the snowy forests of the Saguenay region is an adrenaline-filled adventure that offers a thrilling sense of freedom. Dog sledding is another classic — you’ll learn how to guide an eager team of huskies as they pull you across the pristine landscape. For those seeking tranquility, snowshoeing offers a peaceful way to experience the stillness of the snowy wilderness, with the chance to spot moose or beavers in their natural habitat.
